Edinburgh Castle sits high above the old town and dominates much of the skyline. At first glimpse of the imposing structure about all we could say was, "wow." After making our way up miles of hilly streets and hundreds of stairs we arrived in the massive complex of castle buildings. The oldest of the buildings is St. Margaret's Chapel which dates back to the 12th century. The mighty fortress that sits on an extinct volcano served as the defender of the nation and a prison for centuries. Today it houses Scotland's Crown Jewels, The National War Museum of Scotland, a barracks, chapel, great hall and so much more. Despite the freezing cold, windy temperatures that even the locals were complaining about, the tour busses were pulling into this famous castle with hoards of tourists taking it all in.
